2008 Match Play Results
Gentlemen,
This past Saturday, October 11th, the final two matches of the Inaugural Match Play Tournament For NIMAGA Members were played at Cantigny. The weather was perfect as the foursome teed off at 9:30 AM on the Hillside/Woodside course.
Since April 30th, sixty-four participants have competed in sixty-four matches. The tournament concluded on this glorious afternoon when Mark Cummings defeated Anthony Aguirre 3 & 2 to win the Championship Match. Mark was the only participant in the field to win six matches to become the deserving Champion. All of Mark's matches were close. His least margin of victory came in the First Round when it took him 20 holes to beat Roger Scott 1 Up. Anthony had a great tournament also in winning five matches before falling to Mark Saturday in a closely contested match.
In the Consolation Match, Alex Tarasiewicz defeated John "JJ" Johnston 4 & 3. They both should be very proud of their play in the tournament as Alex won five matches and "JJ" won four times.
For winning the tournament, Mark earned a $385 NIMAGA Certificate, in addition to a unique commemorative trophy. For being runner-up, Anthony received $285, Alex $235 for third place, and "JJ" $185 for fourth place, all in NIMAGA Certificates.
Congratulations to Mark, Anthony, Alex, and "JJ" for a tremendous tournament.
Thank you to all the participants in this inaugural event to help make it the success it was. Hopefully all of you enjoyed playing in the tournament as much as we enjoyed running it. We have been asked and are already looking forward to bringing it back next year!
